In any other game I might expect an upcoming patch to fix a few of these issues, clearly mapping out alternate controls for motion-based moves so they’re accessible to more people, but Nintendo knows what they want, and what they clearly want in Mario Odyssey is for you to use motion controls. But again, the above will give you some shortcuts if you’d rather not. I’ve mostly been using the Pro controller and this has worked just fine, but even in handheld mode, you can move the whole contraption a lot less than you might initially think to get it to work. The movement does not have to be dramatic or prolonged, just a quick jerk up or down or to the right or left. I will say my advice about “shaking” using any input would be that it’s not really a shake and more of a quick flick in a specific direction. So this isn’t a total fix, but it’s a start to get you past a few obstacles if you’d really prefer not to use motion controls. But if you hate gyro, at least the option is there. Homing throw – ?
